Web design / Coleraine, County Londonderry

Lowe Design is a web design agency based in Coleraine, County Londonderry. We build websites for businesses across the Causeway Coast and Glens, from trades and professional services through to retail, hospitality and healthcare. Every site is built to be crawled by Google, read and quoted by AI search tools, and to turn a visitor into an enquiry.
Recent work on this coast
The clearest way to judge an agency is the work rather than the sales page. Two recent builds, both for businesses in Coleraine.

enquiries@lowedesign.ioWhy being found locally works differently now
The way people look for a local business has split in two. Some still type web designer Coleraine into Google and scan the map pack. Plenty now open ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity and ask a whole question: who should I get to build a website for my joinery business near Coleraine.
Those two searches are answered by completely different machinery. Google ranks pages and shows you ten of them. An answer engine reads pages, decides which ones it trusts, writes a single answer, and cites a handful of sources underneath. If your site is thin, slow, or never states plainly what you do and where you do it, you are not in that answer. There is no page two to fall back on.
We build for both at once. Clean semantic structure so a crawler can follow it, plain factual writing so an answer engine can lift a sentence and attribute it to you, and enough real substance on the page that there is something worth lifting in the first place.
You can check how your current site handles the second one with our free AEO scanner. It looks at whether AI tools can actually read, parse and cite your pages, which is a different question from whether Google likes them.
How much does a website cost in Northern Ireland?
The cost of a website in Northern Ireland is set by scope rather than by location. Three things drive the number: how many pages the site needs, whether it has to take money or bookings, and whether you want to edit it yourself afterwards, which means a content management system and the training to use it.
That is why we quote per project rather than publishing a price list. A four page site for a shop and a twenty page site with ecommerce and a booking engine are different pieces of work, and a headline figure that covers both is either misleading about one of them or padded against the other.
What you get from us is a fixed figure against a written scope. No hourly billing, no line items appearing at the end, and if the scope changes halfway through you get the cost of that change before any work happens on it.
Two things worth asking of anyone you get a quote from. Ask whether the price is fixed or an estimate, because an estimate is a number that moves. And ask what is excluded, since hosting, domain renewals, booking software and photography are the four that usually turn up later as separate bills. We set all of those out at scoping so the figure you approve is the figure you pay.
The contact page will get you a scoped quote for your job, usually within two working days.
Should a small business use Squarespace or hire a designer?
Squarespace is a sensible choice when you need a simple presence, you have the time to build it yourself, and nobody in your sector is competing hard for the same search terms. It stops being the right choice the moment the site has to earn its keep.
The limits show up in three places. Templates constrain what you can do with page structure, and structure is exactly what crawlers and language models read. Performance is capped by the platform, so there is a ceiling on how fast the site can ever be. And the technical layer that makes a page quotable, things like schema markup and a clean heading hierarchy, is either missing or awkward to control.
There is a straightforward test. If your competitors around Coleraine are all sitting on the same handful of templates, a properly built site is an easy advantage and it pays for itself. If you are in a quiet sector and genuinely just need your phone number and opening hours online, a DIY build is fine and we will say so. We would rather turn a job down than sell you something you do not need.
What we build for businesses in and around Coleraine
The businesses here are trades, professional services, retail, healthcare and light industry, and most are competing across the whole borough rather than one high street. That changes what the site has to do.
Trades and construction
For trades the job is proof and proximity. The site needs to show real finished work, make the areas you travel to explicit, and reduce the enquiry to a single tap. We build gallery-led sites with service and area pages that answer the searches people actually run, like emergency plumber near Coleraine or extension builder Causeway Coast, rather than a single vague services page that ranks for nothing.
Retail and hospitality
Retail and hospitality sites live or die on practical detail. Opening hours, parking, whether you do collection, what time the kitchen stops. We put that information into structured data as well as onto the page, so it can be pulled into a Google panel or an AI answer without anyone having to click through and hunt for it.
Professional and health services
For solicitors, accountants, clinics and consultants the site is doing reassurance work before it does anything else. Clear credentials, plain English explanations of what you handle, and a booking route that does not depend on someone being free to phone at two on a Tuesday. The content also needs to answer the questions clients are quietly searching before they ever make contact, because that is where the trust is won.
How a project runs
We work in a fixed sequence and you sign off each stage before the next one starts. No stage begins with a surprise.
It opens with a call and a scope. We look at what you have now, what the competition is doing, and what people in your sector actually search for. You get that back as a written scope with a fixed price attached.
Then structure and copy. Pages get planned around real search demand rather than around your org chart, which is the most common reason a site fails to rank. Copy is written to be readable by a customer and quotable by a machine, which turns out to be the same discipline.
Then design and build, done in the browser where we can, so you are approving the real thing on a real screen rather than a flat picture of it.
Then launch and handover. You get a CMS you can genuinely use, a walkthrough recorded so you can go back to it, and thirty days of support afterwards to catch anything that surfaces in normal use.
Timelines get agreed at scoping and written into the plan, because they depend on the build rather than on a standard slot. You can see recent work or read more about how we work.

Frequently asked questions
There is no single best web design agency in Coleraine, because the right fit depends on what the site has to achieve. A shop needing opening hours and a map has different requirements from a firm competing for high value enquiries across the borough. Judge on three things instead. Ask to see live sites the agency has built, then check how fast those sites load and whether they rank for anything. Ask what happens after launch, specifically who fixes things and what it costs. And ask for a fixed price against a written scope, because an agency that will not commit to a number in writing usually has a reason. Lowe Design is based in Coleraine and works this way as standard, but the same three questions are worth asking of anyone you shortlist.
Yes, we work with businesses anywhere in Northern Ireland and beyond, because web design does not require us to be in the same room. We are based in Coleraine and meet clients in person across the Causeway Coast and Glens whenever it is useful, and we run projects entirely remotely where that suits better. The process is identical either way: the same written scope, the same fixed price, the same stage sign offs. Distance changes nothing about the outcome.
The timeline for a small business website is set at scoping and agreed in writing before work starts, because it depends on what the site has to do. The build itself is rarely the slow part. What usually determines the pace is how quickly copy gets approved and photography gets supplied, so we set those deadlines at the start rather than leaving them open. Ecommerce and booking systems add time for payment setup and testing. If you have a fixed date to hit, tell us before we scope it and we will build the plan backwards from that date or tell you plainly that it is too tight.
Yes, every site we build comes with a content management system you can use without touching code. You can edit text, swap images, add pages, publish blog posts and update opening hours yourself. We set it up so the parts that affect search performance, things like page structure and schema markup, stay intact no matter what you change. Handover includes a walkthrough recorded so you can revisit it, and thirty days of support afterwards.
Search and AI visibility are built into the site rather than sold on afterwards as an extra. Page structure, heading hierarchy, schema markup, load speed and content planned around actual search demand are all part of a standard build, because retrofitting them costs more and works less well. Ongoing work like content, link building and local listings is a separate arrangement, and we will tell you honestly whether you need it. Plenty of small businesses do not.
No, and plenty of our projects run entirely over calls and email. We are based in Coleraine so meeting face to face is easy across the Causeway Coast and Glens, and some people much prefer to sit down at the start of a project. Others would rather not lose the half day. Both work. We will suggest a meeting where it genuinely helps, usually at the scoping stage, and never as a condition of taking the job.
