harbour & co is a new coastal restaurant that needed to feel established before it had served a single plate. opening a restaurant is hard enough without looking like a start up, so the brief was to build a brand with enough confidence and warmth to fill tables from week one and hold its own against places that had been trading for years.
the problem
a new venue has no reputation and no reviews to lean on, so the brand has to do the heavy lifting. the owners had a name and a location and not much else. they needed an identity that signalled quality and welcome at the same time, worked on a tiny sign and a full window, and felt at home both on a printed menu and on instagram where most of their bookings would start.
the approach
we built the brand identity from the coast outwards: a calm, premium palette, a characterful wordmark with a monogram for the small spaces, and a tone of voice that is warm without trying too hard. everything was designed as a system so the team could keep it consistent across menus, signage, packaging and social without needing a designer for every post.
- a primary logo plus a monogram for signage, stamps and social avatars
- menu and print templates the team can update in house
- a photography and voice guide so the feed always looks like the brand
the result
harbour & co opened looking like it had been there for years. the identity gave the launch a clear, premium look that travelled well on social, where strong visual brands consistently outperform, as the design industry has long documented at awwwards. bookings were healthy from the first weekend and the brand has room to grow into merchandise and a second site. branding is not decoration here, it is the reason a table gets booked.
